Welcome to Empowered Beginnings

If a doula were a drug it would be unethical to not use one!

Leanne Doula Nottingham

Hello I'm Leanne

I am a Birth and Postnatal Doula

I am a woman, daughter, sister, mum, wife, loyal friend, forager, gin drinker, netball player, pediatric nurse of 20 years and most recently I have entered the birthy world and become a passionate birth and postpartum Doula.

I live in a small village in between Southwell and Newark in North Nottinghamshire, with my husband, three children and my mum lives with us too, its a busy house!

As a firm believer in the transformative power of birth and the profound impact it has on families, I am committed to providing unwavering support throughout this incredible journey.

What is a DOULA?

A birth and postnatal doula embodies a profound commitment to the well-being of expectant mothers and their families, offering an unwavering source of support, guidance, and empowerment throughout the entire perinatal journey. During the labour and birth process, a doula serves as a steadfast presence, providing continuous physical and emotional comfort to the birthing mother. With a deep understanding of various relaxation techniques, comfort measures, and birthing positions, they are adept at helping women navigate the intensity of labour whilst supporting their wishes and preferences amidst the clinical environment of a hospital or birthing centre. Through compassionate encouragement and empathetic reassurance, a doula empowers women to tap into their innate strength and resilience, fostering a sense of confidence and agency during this transformative experience.

In the postpartum period, when the euphoria of childbirth gives way to the realities of caring for a newborn, a doula remains an invaluable ally, offering compassionate guidance, practical assistance, and a wealth of knowledge to help new parents navigate the challenges of early parenthood. From providing education on breastfeeding techniques and newborn care to offering emotional support and companionship during sleepless nights, a doula plays a multifaceted role in nurturing the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of the entire family unit. By creating a nurturing and non-judgmental space where parents feel seen, heard, and supported, a doula fosters a sense of empowerment and confidence, enabling families to embrace the joys and challenges of their new roles with grace and resilience.

Moreover, a birth and postnatal doula is not just a caregiver, but also an educator, advocate, and confidante, committed to providing evidence-based information, personalized guidance, and unwavering support every step of the way. Through their presence, knowledge, and compassionate care, doulas strive to cultivate a sense of empowerment, resilience, and connection within the families they serve, laying the groundwork for a positive and transformative birthing and parenting experience that reverberates far beyond the confines of the delivery room. In essence, a doula's role extends far beyond the traditional boundaries of childbirth support, encompassing the holistic well-being of mothers, babies, and families as they embark on the extraordinary journey of bringing new life into the world.

It would be an absolute honour to walk beside you during this special sacred time.

'Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers - strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength'
